“Does the carpet match the drapes?”
“Wait, is your pubic hair ginger too?”
“So, what color are your pubes then?”
To all the men who have asked me some version of this: why are you so curious about my pubic hair? What makes you think I’m going to answer this personal of a question to a stranger? Why do you think a patch of hair on my body is the most interesting thing about me?
And while we’re at it, are you asking because you want to fetishize me? Like you want to try a taste of a fiery redhead? Asking this is not gonna make me wanna fuck you.
Or is it because you think it’s gross and--for some reason--you want to let me know that? Is it really worth it to make me feel so uncomfortable about a question I was never going to answer for you?
I’ve spent years and a lot of money shaving, waxing, Nair-ing, and hiding my body hair. I’ve felt shame and embarrassment every time someone has asked me about it.
But here’s the thing. Yes, I’m ginger. Yes, that means my pubes are ginger too. It’s hair that grows on my body. Inherently, it’s not a disgusting thing or a sexy fetish; it’s just neutral. And I refuse to let anyone make me feel bad about myself because of it.
